My cellphone is busted.
It was only a matter of time, really.
A person can only drop a piece of electronics on the concrete floor so many times before functionality starts to decline and it no longer holds a charge like it should.
At the same time, the contract with AT&T Mobile (used to be Cingular), our time in the sun with the carrier, is drawing to a close next month.
It is unfortunate.
I will miss the tiny keypad and fuzzy picture and video capabilities.
I'll miss the integrated web browser, though we haven't carried a data plan since we purchased the phones to begin with.
There a newer phones now, and I'm cheered more than a little by various technological advances.
I'm just not sure which cool new phone impresses me the most. Replacing my venerable Motorola is a big job.
Seriously, $600 is a lot of money for a phone, even admittedly for the most awesome phone in the history of humankind -- including the original Alexander Graham Bell phone (which did not have data or media capabilities at all).
$600.
Thanks, Apple.
Now what am I supposed to do?

Well, well, well. Your cell phone just happens to crap out now that the iPhone is available. Wow. What a strange coincidence.

I don't detect any foul play at all! Why no ... mere coincidence!

You are completely right. And it takes a lot of drops on the concrete floor to destroy a Motorola.

OMFG - I just heard on the radio that in addition to wireless internet through the Edge Network, the iPhone comes equippped to surf via WiFi!

It's such an OBVIOUS thing to do. That's why Apple is teh bomb, I suppose. They think like end users, and do the obvious things. There's no reason my crappy little Verizon phone shouldn't be able to do the same. Say ... I wonder if there's a hack ...

Anyway, I blogged about the iPhone.

And the Edge network has (possibly) been set free of the bottlenecks that were in place, as of today. My BlackBerry is already faster as a side-effect of the iPhone roll-out.
Of course, the BlackBerry does no media playback, so it is dead to me.

Garrick ... just set the BlackBerry down slowly and step away from it. There's been enough silicon shed today! Just set it down ... That's it ... real easy ...
